Tale of Two Workers – Part 2
Recently I shared the first of my Tale of Two Workers to demonstrate that a future 100% home based workforce is unlikely.
Sam is thriving. Now I introduce Alice.
Alice has been working for 8 years, and is a senior technical analyst in her team of 15. She coaches juniors, and handles escalations on complex issues.
Alice formed strong friendships at work and some colleagues are now part of her personal social circle.
Alice was a strong performer with consistent 360 degree commendations. She was a rising star, destined for a technical management role.
Enter the #pandemic.
Alice is struggling. She misses the daily interactions with colleagues.
She needs the conversation, the engagement and a personal touch in her day, to inspire and motivate her.
She misses non-verbal cues. Connecting and engaging is more difficult and she feels she is building rapport from scratch on each call.
Alice reports feeling depressed.
Her performance is trending downwards.
We are providing her with support. Her job isn’t at risk.
But she will be returned to the office as soon as it is safe. For Alice, office-based is best for her mental health and her career.
Do you have staff like Alice?
