Will our workforce change post-pandemic?
“How can a boss justify office staff when we are all working effectively from home?”
I’ve seen many posts like this. They lack insight into the variety of working styles. And it’s a disparaging view of the “boss”.
I have hundreds of staff, and one of my daily priorities is to connect with them.
Some superstars have emerged.
Increased productivity, improved quality, happy and relaxed. I will not bring these folk back to the office unless I have to or if it’s their preference.
They are flourishing in an environment without distractions.
Others are struggling.
They miss the water cooler conversations.
They don’t like the blurred lines between work and home. Some are lonely. They are less productive. Or just unhappy.
Many miss the camaraderie with colleagues. Others miss the separation from family; it makes for a happy reunion.
Some even miss the routine of their daily commute.
I don’t doubt the #pandemic will reshape our workforce, but #WFH does not suit everyone.
I’m not making arbitrary decisions about my employees.
I am constantly assessing, analyzing and changing course where required.
And I’m not unique. A multitude of managers care about their staff and seek optimum solutions for a happy and productive #workforce.
Are you more or less productive at home?
