Raw – Day 6

There are some amazing gourmet recipes available for raw foodies, the best I’ve ever tasted was a lasagne, made with layered zuke ribbons, cashew “ricotta” and raw tomato sauce, served warm. These gourmet recipes can be time consuming but are superb, restaurant quality meals. Speaking of restaurants, there are a number of famous raw restaurants around the world. And raw food celebrities.

One of the most interesting stories is about Sarma Melngailis, who was the glamorous darling of the raw vegan food revolution in New York and hosted Hollywood celebrities at her restaurant Pure Food and Wine. She had a chain of juice bars and an online store, One Lucky Duck, and published a number of gourmet raw food books with her partner Matthew Kenney, still a raw food restaurateur and celebrity. After they broke up personally and professionally, she married a con man, embezzled funds from investors and went on the lam. She was ultimately arrested with her husband, holed up with Domino pizza and chicken wings, with a relentless belief that her dog was about to become immortal. She served a prison sentence and apparently became a food critic on the inside, advising inmates of the quality of food offerings ????.

Pictured are my treats – nut balls and bounty balls.
